I know many of your groups and hospitals are allowing you to access 2015 professional dues allotment at this time. Please carefully consider where you are spending those professional dollars and what organizations you are supporting. Are the conferences you're attending and organizations you're supporting focused on the AA profession and its promotion? Take a few moments today to join (we'd love to have you as a member!) or renew (even better!) GAAA and thus GSA. Our organization is led by fellow AAs who are only interested in our profession and in supporting YOU.

Consider this: for $150, you get a year membership in GAAA/GSA. This allows you access to two very affordable education meetings each year held conveniently on weekends in January and July. These meetings offer 8 and 12 CMEs, respectively. They also provide you with ample opportunity for networking, socializing, and getting updated on what's pertinent in the anesthesia landscape in Georgia.

Membership also gives you access to the problem-solving capabilities of a larger organization. We think we are insulated from adverse issues affecting our practice because we work in Georgia, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Earlier this year, AAs in Georgia were told they could not work at their outpatient surgery center because their group could not reimburse for their services; only CRNAs could work there. The issue involved BCBS Federal not listing AAs as reimbursable anesthesia providers. (Incidentally, BCBS Federal is the biggest insurer in Georgia on the Obamacare exchanges.) Who can you call in this situation to help you fight this infringement on your practice? The GAAA! We worked with our management company, our lobbyist, and our AA State Senator to resolve the problem to the complete satisfaction of all involved. AAs are now listed as providers. These kind of things are scary and need our attention. The best way to protect yourself, your income, your profession is to join your professional association.

Imagine the things we could accomplish and the exposure we could garner for the advancement of our practice with hundreds more members.

Take a step in the right direction today and renew (or begin) your GAAA membership.
