Beautiful weather, wonderful people, and great opportunities were present at the AAAA 37th Annual Conference this year in Orlando, FL. With over 500 attendees at this years' conference, it made for a monumental year for member participation and contribution to the success of the AAAA organization. The conference was held at the glorious Caribe Royale Resort just minutes away from all the local attractions. However, there was really no need to leave the resort to find relaxation with the fantastic amenities ranging from the extraordinary restaurants to the family friendly activities and lively pool.

The GAAA was represented by students, fellows, and distinguished physicians as AAAA members. We were proud to see our GAAA Student Representative, Claire Wainwright, governing the LifeBox booth comprised of AAAA student members from all education programs. They were vigilantly working to further the philanthropic mission of our AA profession which raised over $7,000 throughout the year.  In addition, Lindsey Hopkins, GAAA Student Representative, held a spotlight with her poster presentation displayed during the opening day welcome reception, and represented the AA profession throughout the conference with her professional outlook on beginning a career in Georgia.

Your GAAA leadership was involved in pivotal meetings and discussions that impact our present and future development as a profession. The State Component Meeting, which is a meeting of all the AA leaders from states practicing and seeking licensure to discuss and learn from current challenges and past victories, provided the GAAA an opportunity to gather new strategies to move forward in enhancing our representation in Georgia as well as share our successes over the last year. Furthermore, there were panel discussions with the general conference attendees aimed to engage all members in the struggles and successes of the various AA liscenure battles fought this year for the AA profession. Claire Chandler, Immediate Past President, gave a wonderful State of Union address during the Annual Business Luncheon, and graciously pasted the torch to Saral Patel, President. Saral challenged all AAs to support the our national organization, AAAA, and become active within our practicing states to further the development of our profession from a grassroots approach.

The AAAA Annual Conference provided informative and current lectures including pediatrics, cardiology, and ambulatory anesthesia hot topics.  This year the AAAA organization sponsored guest lecturers from the United Kingdom, PA-As. These are current preceptors of AA students in Wales and the United Kingdom. These presenters shared the differences and similarities between anesthesia practice abroad and what they have learned from the AA students which have visited....with a wonderful sense of humor.

In an exciting year for the AA profession, this AAAA conference did not disappoint. We look forward to having more GAAA members present next year in Hilton Head, SC to represent Georgia and our Profession.
